September Security Patch Rolling Out To Unlocked Galaxy S20 Smartphones

Over the past few months, Samsung has been incredibly fast in rolling out monthly security patch updates. The company has now started rolling out the September 2020 security patch update to the unlocked Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphones.

The latest update for the Galaxy S20 comes with the build number G981U1UES1BTH4. This update carries the build numbers G986U1UES1BTH4 and G988U1UES1BTH4 for Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra respectively.

The update comes in over 208MB of size and should also include regular bug fixes and stability improvements. Besides the latest security patch, the changelog doesn’t mention any other changes. As the update being rolled out incrementally, not all the devices will be getting the update on day one.

However, interested users can manually check for the latest OTA update by going to Settings > Software update > Download. If the new update is available, tap on the “Install now” button to download and install the update right away.

While many other Android OEMs are still playing catchup, it’s good to see Samsung Galaxy smartphones competing head-on with Google Pixels. Earlier this week, Google released the all-new Android 11 for its Pixel smartphones.

One UI 3.0 developer beta program started for the Galaxy S20 series

Now, Samsung has launched its developer beta program for One UI 3.0 based on Android 11 in the US and South Korea. Interestingly, it is limited to just the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Note 20, and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are not eligible for the One UI 3.0 developer beta program. That being said, the public rollout of One UI 3.0 should happen in the next couple of months, at least for the latest flagship devices.

There should be significant improvements in terms of privacy and security with the new Android 11.  Last month, the company rolled out the new One UI 2.5 update for the 2020 Galaxy S smartphones. It included several new features introduced with the Galaxy Note 20 smartphones.

First off, the Galaxy S20 smartphones now support the wireless DeX feature. Also, third-party launchers now support full-screen gestures. With the Galaxy Note 20 series launch, the company also refreshed its update policy.

Samsung now guarantees three generations of Android updates for the Galaxy flagships and select Galaxy A smartphones. Apart from the upcoming devices, it is also applicable to most of the smartphones launched in the last couple of years.
